Making Grandpa's Birthday Cake

Unfortunately, after the surprise party at Berger, we all got sick. Those events weren't at all connected. Simon had had his runny nose for a while already, but Adam & I weren't getting enough sleep or bolstering our immune systems enough. We immediately started taking a double extract echinacea (fresh herb) tincture in high doses regularly, but all day Saturday - Dad's birthday! - we felt pretty crummy. We'd had plans to go out for dinner w/ Mom & Dad and then come back to our house for dessert & cards after the kids went to bed, but unfortunately we had to cancel.

Surprisingly, by Sunday midday we felt much better. I think it's the quickest turnaround I've ever had on a sore throat. So we rescheduled the party, but just went to the folks' house instead of out for dinner. I recruited my little helper to make Grandpa's birthday cake. He loved every bit of the process.

Pouring in the water & oil
Stirring it together - he was actually very controlled!
He helped me put it in the oven before his quiet time. I promised not to do anything without his help, so after we woke him up we frosted it and tasted the frosting (only AFTER finishing the act of frosting)
The frosting got Simon's approval. Yum!
