I decided to post a "real-time" entry...since I'm up and there's nothing else to do. Adam and I were talking on the couch after kids went to bed & we both ended up falling asleep around 9:30PM. We woke up at 1:30AM to get ready for bed and also heard Anson crying. After that long "nap" I'm unable to get back to sleep & Anson wasn't falling asleep either...so here we are.
But that's just background.
We closed on our new house today! Well, technically yesterday since it's after midnight. But we have a new home! We won't move for a few weeks - partially b/c I didn't want to get into full-on "pack" mode till it was certain, partially b/c we are doing some projects/painting before we and all our stuff get in the way. I'm so excited though.
It's February 21st. We moved to Michigan in early July. Eight months is a loooong time to feel like "any time now we'll find our new home and move into it." If we had known how long it would take to sell our New Mexico house and then find one here plus all the details of making an offer, doing inspections, etc. we may have done some things differently. Oh well - hindsight is...not really helpful right now.
Looking forward is, however, exciting & joyful & fun. I'm especially thrilled that we found a house that we can imagine living in for a very very long time. At the closing today we discovered that we are only the third owners of this property. The previous two families both lived there for somewhere between 30 and 50 years, and I can anticipate that we might do the same. The amount of space and the layout and the neighborhood all lead me to feel like this is a real homecoming...and I'll never have to move again. Until I'm 85 and moving into assisted living or moving in with one of my kids or something...then I might be willing to move again. :)
My mind is racing with ideas for where the veggie garden can go - the seller said there are a few rhubarb plants behind the garage and the soil is great back there, so that might be a good place to start. We bought our first house in March back in New Mexico, which is technically the middle of the spring/blooming season there, but similar time frame in the calendar year. I'm looking forward to getting into this house and watching it bloom over the upcoming months.
I realize that because this house-closing experience is very fresh and because it's 3:37AM I'm rambling and not saying much of any substance at all. To spare you all, I'll sign off now.
Before I go though, I want to say that I genuinely appreciate our real estate agent, Robert E. Young. Not only was he incredibly patient with us, he was great fun to work with. We only wish we could have bought a $300,000 home or so...then maybe he'd get paid a little closer to what his efforts were worth.
I have several other people I'd like to thank too...but any & every other person involved came on much later in the game, so they don't get blog mention. :) If anyone reading this has any real estate needs/questions, I suggest Rob! You won't regret it.
Happy dreams...I hope.
